Non-veterans may participate in training, but you must have a disability that would qualify for a service dog, and have a recommendation from a medical professional that a service dog would be beneficial in alleviating your disability.
We train you to train your dog. Ultimately the handler trains their dog to be a service dog with the help and guidance of our trainers.
No, Trained service dogs are granted public access rights due to The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you do not have a disability you can not have a service animal.
In our program service dog training is close to one year. At a minimum, we do 6 weeks of basic manners, 6 weeks of intermediate manners, and 6 weeks of Canine dog citizens prep and test. 12 weeks of public access, Service skills that alleviate the handler's disability, and a public access test.
Athens assist with training of your pet to be a service animal for individuals with a disability that would require a need of a service animal. Athens can train on the following:
Any service dog team that would want to participate in our program would first need to pass an assessment process to see if your pet has the potential for service work. To schedule an assessment please fist attend our service Dog orientation. Service dog orientation can be booked for free in group class section of our website.
Service dog handlers must have a disability that requires a service animal, and the service animal must be trained to perform skills that will be an asset in alleviating the handlers disability.

The Continue Mission Project is for Veterans that have completed service dog training and qualified their pet as a service animal and wish to give back to the veteran community. We offer a special opportunity to give serve and receive free education in the pet industry with the goal of becoming a certified dog trainer.
